YANGTZE, THE LONG RIVER
This documentary shoots silent but screams the enormous problems of mankind. The great contradiction of modern civilization. Development brings destruction.
The photographs of the Yangxiang River in China are the work of Nadav Kander, a British portrait photographer who won the 2009 Prix Pictet on Environment. His photographs tell the stories of families living by the river that is now becoming inhabitable due to pollution and the corruption that had concealed this calamity for far too long. The Yangziang river was home for more people than the whole population of the U.S. combined. The photographs pose a question.
“Why must we destroy to develop?”
