“With the current pandemic, we see empty spaces that are usually swarmed with people. We see pictures posted on social media of beautiful places and tourist attractions that are empty – which is sad but, to me, they beautiful in its own serene kind of way. I then realized that I have been trying to capture these kind of images forever, where I find beauty and soul of the city or landscapes exemplified when there are no people in them.
Over the past decade, whenever I travel I always try to wait for the right moment or sometimes venture to certain areas at less popular times to get that almost surreal images of spaces without people in them. Sometimes that means capturing image of something that is not as popular but in a way reflects the essence of such places.
I always have a proper camera with me everywhere I go, sometimes a film camera, other times digital, as I only keep mobile phones for casual people photos. But for spaces, those are too precious, and picture from a phone will not cut it.”
